Company Profile
Shenandoah Valley Community Residences, Inc. (SVCR) is a private,
not for profit corporation which has been providing residential
services to adults with mental retardation since 1981. SVCR is a
contract agency of the Northwestern Community Services Board and
licensed by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental
Retardation and Substance Abuse Services.
People who seek our services come from the community, state
institutions, and other social service situations. Referrals to
the SVCR waiting list for community placement are made through a
formal application and admissions process which involves not only
SVCR staff, but other mental retardation professionals as well.
Professional staff, with backgrounds in mental retardation and
residential services, provide education and training which
maximizes consumer independent living skills and opportunities
for community integration. Areas of instruction available to our
program participants include, but are not limited to, personal
hygiene, menu and dietary planning, food purchase and
preparation, money management, household domestics, community
mobility and resource identification, socialization,
communication, medication management, problem solving, and
